Comparative Study of Image Compression Algorithms based on DCT and DWT

چکیده

Image Compression is one of the major image processing technique. It is used extensively to reduce the number of bits required to represent an image without degrading the quality of image. The main objective is to reduce the irrelevance and redundancy present in the image data. Compression of images can be performed using various techniques. Storage capacity and speed of transmission are the two important factors that arise during the heavy duty of multimedia over an internet. In this paper we have performed a comparative study of Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) based and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) based image compression. Keywords— CR, DCT, DWT, MSE, PSNR.
